In Term 1, the Philanthropy portfolio of the UNSW Business Society collaborated with the Australian Cancer Research Foundation (ACRF) as our charity partner.
With 1 in 3 men and 1 in 4 women in Australia being diagnosed with cancer before the age of 75, the ACRF invests in the brightest minds and boldest ideas in cancer research so that we can eventually beat this statistic.
‘BarbeCure’
On the 17th of March, our first Philanthropy event ‘BarbeCure’ was held to commemorate the beginning of our term-long charity partnership with the Australian Cancer Research Foundation. During trimester 1, we are proud to back the brightest minds with the boldest ideas in cancer research.
Trivia Night
On the 15th April the Philanthropy portfolio held UNSW Business Society’s first Trivia Night which sold out within the first week of event release. The event contained a range of fun and engaging activities which helped to raise awareness for the ACRF. We were delighted to have ACRF’s representative, Anne, in attendance on the night to provide the introduction to our event, speaking to students about the impact of childhood cancer.
There were a variety of questions spanning from general knowledge, entertainment to business, where attendees needed to collaborate with their team in deciding on the right answers. An intermission saw some brave participants join us on the stage to cut and colour their hair with glitter hairspray. The night concluded with a final opportunity to win some bonus points, with a series of challenges that tested the skills of team members.
All profits from this event were donated directly to the ACRF to further the support of cancer research in Australia.
‘Phil Good’ Day
To wrap up our charity partnership with the ACRF, the Philanthropy portfolio brought back the summer spirit to students on campus with our beach-themed ‘Phil Good’ Day Stall.
After a day filled with baking, we attempted to lure students to our bake sale with a gold coin in exchange for a sweet treat. Students were given the opportunity to test their skills in beach pong, whilst others got a mini photoshoot at our Polaroid photobooth.
With the joint goal of uplifting student wellbeing whilst fundraising for cancer research, we were proud to announce the success of this event in raising a total of $410.
Over $1,500 has been fundraised across our events for the ACRF throughout the duration of the term. We would also like to express our gratitude towards the ACRF for partnering with the UNSW Business Society, and together, we can outsmart cancer.
