Brand Manager,

Anna Maree Rallos

[minti_carousel columns=”1″ tabletcolumns=”1″ nav=”false”]

What do you do? What are the duties, functions and responsibilities that you are involved in as a part of your role?

My role as a Brand Manager on the Sweet Creations team provides me with mouth-watering chocolate baking products and delicious marketing experiences. I’m responsible for managing a portfolio of household brands including Nestlé Sweetened Condensed Milk, Bakers’ Choice Chocolate and Plaistowe Cooking Chocolate. I get to sink my teeth into a variety of projects including the management of key innovation projects, creating engaging communication campaigns, strategising for yearly brand plans, crafting concepts for research, creating branded content for our bakers-corner.com.au website, social media channels and other consumer communication pieces.

Can you tell us a little about Nestlé’s work culture and environment? What sets it apart?

Nestlé is the world’s biggest food company which provides you with exposure to the best practice ideas and campaigns in the FMCG (Fast Moving Consumer Goods) arena from all the different markets. Nestlé’s rich heritage in consumer goods comes to life where I walk around the office; from the Kit Kat team on Level 1 to Uncle Toby’s cereals on Level 2 to Maggi 2 Minute Noodles on the top floor.

How did you get started in this field? How well did your work relate to the experiences or studies you had in university?

I completed a double degree in Business (Advertising) and Creative Industries (Media & Communication). A degree is the cost of entry into many professional jobs and employers look for people who also have real world experience. I realised quite quickly the competitiveness of graduate recruitment programs and sought to differentiate myself through an overseas university exchange, unpaid internships in a variety of industries and volunteer work for not for profits. These work experience made me realise what I loved and equally what I loathed, ultimately shaping my decision to work for a big company.

What surprised you when you first came into your role?

You are given responsibility from the very first day. In my sales rotation, I was allocated the largest territory by revenue in Melbourne and had the same KPI’s as the rest of the field team. During my five years at Nestlé I have been able to see the entire product cycle; from product ideation to packaging design to manufacturing to shelf to consumer. I’m surprised when I use information that I learned in elective subjects I never thought would be relevant, such as Colour Chemistry and Accounting, turns out to be invaluable when I’m managing projects.

Do you have any advice for someone applying for Nestle?

Nestlé encourage you to understand all aspects of the business, as breadth of experience is an important trait of future leaders. The graduate program is a great opportunity to test the waters across Sales, Marketing, Category and Channel. An open mindset towards your career and flexibility on your job location will be your best asset. I have been transferred to two different cities and also visited factories across Australian and New Zealand.

Do you have any advice for someone interested in FMCG Industry?

There’s a hidden story behind every product that goes into your supermarket trolley and working in the FMCG industry allows you to shape that story.

SPERO, Sales Graduate

It’s rare to be handed an opportunity that gives you such a strong start to your career.

“In the Next Gen Nestlé graduate program, you’re exposed to many different functions, people and experiences in a short amount of time. In my first year, I relocated interstate and the opportunity to travel so early in my career means that I’m richer for the experience both career-wise and personally.

I’ve had so much support throughout the program – from the different managers and teams I’ve been in, through to the training and development opportunities I’ve been given. It’s helped me take on challenging work and to learn best practices of the world’s biggest food and beverage company.

At the end of the program, I now have a strong understanding of how Nestlé operates, the different roles it takes to get our products to our consumers, and the different career paths I could take in the future.”
